Apt Pupil is a 1998 American psychological thriller film based on the 1982 novella of the same name by Stephen King. The film was directed by Bryan Singer and stars Ian McKellen and Brad Renfro. Set in the 1980s in southern California, the film tells the story of high school student Todd Bowden, who discovers a fugitive Nazi war criminal, Kurt Dussander, living in his neighborhood under a pseudonym.
Singer has called Apt Pupil "a study in cruelty", with Nazism serving as a vehicle to demonstrate the capacity of evil. The film was the subject of some controversy when legal allegations were brought against Singer by underage actors.

Midsommar is a 2019 folk horror film written and directed by Ari Aster. The film stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as a dysfunctional couple who travel to Sweden with a group of friends for a midsummer festival, only to find themselves in the clutches of a sinister cult practicing Scandinavian paganism. Supporting actors include William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Ellora Torchia, Archie Madekwe, and Will Poulter.

Heathers is a 1989 American Black Comedy film written by Daniel Waters and directed by Michael Lehmann, in both their respective film debuts. The film stars Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lissane Falk, and Kim Walker. The film focuses on four teenage girls, three of whom are named Heather, who have formed a clique in an Ohio high school, and the dangerous misanthropic new student who wants to kill the popular kids and stage their deaths as suicides.

Showgirls is a 1995 erotic dram film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas, and stars Elizabeth Berkley, Kyle McLachlan, Gina Gershon and Gina Ravera. The film centers on a “street-smart” drifter who ventures to Las Vegas and climbs the seedy hierarchy from stripper to showgirl. The film was the second collaboration between Verhoeven and Eszterhas, after their success with Basic Instinct.
